Prof. David Goitein

Prof. David Goitein is a graduate of the Jerusalem Medical School, completed an internship and specialization in general surgery at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital. Specialized in advanced minimally invasive surgery at Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh, USA. He returned to Israel in 2003 to the Department of General and Oncology Surgery at Sheba Medical Center Tel Hashomer. Director of the Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Unit at Sheba. Senior surgeon and surgeon at "Asia Bariatric", the medical center for the treatment of obesity, part of the "Asia Medical" group. I believe: "Morbid obesity is not a 'decree from heaven' with no possibility of solution. With proper preparation, coordination of expectations, personalized analysis and close multidisciplinary follow-up, this condition can be cured with a tremendous improvement in health, quality of life and length. The decision to 'change lives' is difficult but necessary and my job is to help my patients reach it, to treat them with full attention until, during and after surgery. Meticulous attention to every little detail by and by my patients is the key to success. Minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopic) is a powerful and important tool. It is necessary to know how to perpetrate it correctly, but do not forget that it is an approach and not the goal. Patient safety always precedes the surgeon's ego and 'conversion' to conventional surgery – 'open' is never a complication."
