Dr. Bar Zakai began his medical studies in Milan, Italy, graduating with honors from the Technion Medical School, Haifa.
He performed his internship at Sheba Hospital and partly at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.
Dr. Bar Zakai did his master's specialization in Pancreatic Liver and Biliary tract surgeries in France, in two leading in this field centers.
At the end of his master's degree, from 2008 to 2014, Dr. Bar Zakai worked with the late Professor Tsarniak and became a partner in establishing the Liver and Pancreatic Surgery Department at Sheba Hospital.
In 2015, Dr. Bar Zakai moved to Kaplan Hospital in Rehovot, when he received the management of the Pancreatic Liver and Bile Surgery Unit, and as of 2018, Dr. Bar Zakai is the manager of the General Surgery Department along with pancreatic liver and biliary tract surgeries.
Dr. Bar Zakai specializes in groin hernia surgeries, gallbladder, adrenal, spleen, liver, and pancreas via laparoscopic approach. He is currently performing most liver and pancreatic surgeries including: pancreatic tail, pancreatic head (whipple), total pancreatectomy, liver metastasectomies, right and left liver lobe resections via laparoscopic approach with a 3D system that allows for maximum accuracy and optimal sense of depth.
